I am very proud to say that I have walked the entire
length of the great Ohio & Erie Canal. From
Cleveland to Portsmouth. On my journey I've
rediscovered long lost locks, meet lots of friendly
people and heard many personal stories about the
canal. And in the process fulfilled a life long dream.
Please take your time and explore my web site,
within it's pages you will find pictures, stories and
first hand events all about the Ohio & Erie Canal.

The Johnny Apple Seed of the Ohio & Erie Canal
Helping To Preserve The Ohio & Erie Canal's Past
The year is 2006. It's now been 93 years since the flood of 1913 that closed the canal
era in Ohio. Accept for tourism, the once great Ohio & Erie Canal will never be used
again for navigation of any type. It may be dead in the physical form but the mystique
still lives on. That's why it is so important that many people including myself, do so
much documentation on what little remains of its original greatness. I know
first-hand that in southern Ohio, not much is left and even less through the central
part of our state. If this documentation wasn't being done, the results would be this -
in another hundred years, you would have never believed there was an Ohio & Erie
Canal.
My Personal Goal
Did you know?
The average speed of a loaded canal boat traveling the Ohio & Erie
Canal was only 4 MPH.

A number of readers have asked for pictures of the infamous
Black Hand Gorge they've read so much about but have never seen a lot of,
here you go enjoy it. I've also added pictures of the Evans Creek Aqueduct and
the wonderful folks of the Hanover Volunteers.
Again, I'm going to retrace the towpath of the Ohio and Erie Canal and soon to follow the Pennsylvania and Ohio and the
Sandy and Beaver Canals. Hopefully, we'll find a way into the tunnels at Dungannon and film them. This site will soon
have the addition of live footage which can be very expensive. Until now, I have financed all of my own research. I don't
have the financial support of the big canal organizations, but somehow pulled off what they haven't been able to do by
showing every lock on the entire Ohio and Erie Canal system, and walked from Cleveland to Portsmouth. Please
support and enjoy these historic documentaries coming to this site soon. Any donations will be greatly appreciated
and by watching this site you'll know that your donation is at work.
